How'd you get started in IT?

I started in PHP development during a really rough part of my life, then I went to the career center for computer networking (figured I should know software and hardware) for my junior and senior years of high school where I discovered that I enjoyed IT way more than programming daily.

From there it was getting that first job (last a couple months) and then working for a school as IT technician (over glorified help desk) and now my current job where it was originally IT technician but quickly became full blown SysAdmin.

That’s cool. I just got sticked to coding & computers when i was a kid, and now i know _everything about computers 😂

In high school I really wanted a laptop so I could watch TV and go on AOL instant messenger to chat with my friends…but laptops were expensive. My dad had an old broken laptop which wouldn’t boot into windows anymore, so I wiped it and taught myself how to install Linux on it. From that moment on I got hooked on computers :-)

mikejones3 Not that dissimilar to myself.
Essentially, I was getting tired of watching the family pay somebody else to fix things for us. As a naturally inquisitive person, I started pulling apart old desktops, laptops, etc. and thinking “Right, lets learn how this goes together” and Googling every time I got an error, or got stuck.

Eventually I ballooned from there, and my passion grew 🙂
